Technical Insights from CIC Heavy Machinery

The ball mill is a core piece of equipment for crushing and grinding materials, widely used across mining, cement, power generation, chemical processing, and metallurgy. CIC Heavy Machinery has decades of experience in the design, casting, machining, and delivery of complete mill systems. Below is an overview of the main applications of ball mills.

    Mining & Mineral Processing

In mineral processing, the ball mill is tasked with grinding ore to the target particle size for liberation. It handles iron ore, copper ore, gold ore, lead-zinc ore, molybdenum ore, and many other materials. Working in a closed circuit with crushers and classifiers, the ball mill ensures the discharge fineness meets the requirements of downstream flotation, magnetic separation, or gravity concentration. CIC ball mills use high-quality alloy steel liners and wear-resistant grinding media for long life, low energy consumption, and smooth operation.

    Cement & Building Materials

The cement industry is another major application area for ball mills. On a cement production line, ball mills serve two key stages: (1) grinding limestone, clay, iron ore, and other raw materials into raw meal, and (2) grinding clinker with gypsum and additives into finished cement. CIC supplies tube mills and ball mills from Ø3.2m to Ø5.0m, suitable for production lines from 2,500 to 10,000 tons of clinker per day.

    Power Generation

In thermal power plants, steel ball coal mills (a variant of ball mills) grind raw coal into fine pulverized fuel for boiler combustion. Coal fineness directly impacts combustion efficiency and generation cost. Double-inlet double-outlet ball mills are widely used in large coal-fired units. CIC has the design and manufacturing capability for these coal mills and has supplied them to power projects in multiple countries.

    Chemical & Metallurgical Industries

In the chemical sector, ball mills are used for ultra-fine grinding of pigments, catalysts, and various raw materials. In metallurgy, they handle smelting slag, refractory materials, and ore tailings. Glass, ceramics, and construction materials also rely on ball mills for raw material preparation. CIC offers customized solutions including dry/wet grinding, grate/overflow discharge, and asynchronous/synchronous motor drives to suit diverse needs.

    CIC Manufacturing Capability

CIC Heavy Machinery is equipped with an 8-meter CNC vertical lathe, a 6x20-meter heavy-duty lathe, gantry machining centers, large CNC cutting machines for welding fabrication, and a dedicated large gear machining workshop. From casting and rough machining to precision finishing, assembly, and testing, the entire process is controlled in-house for consistent quality.
